Headroom for Mac

The Ultimate Mac Cleanup Tool, Completely Free

Headroom shows what your Mac is doing, down to the process: CPU, GPU, memory, disk, network, battery and heat. Optimize clears what rebuilds itself — simulator runtimes, build folders, caches — and says what comes back before anything goes.

The Headroom icon: four readings stopping short of a limit

Everything at a glance

Seven readings on one page, each a figure, a meter and five minutes of trace. Past a threshold a reading turns amber or red, and the title counts them.

Headroom's Dashboard: CPU at 92% and memory at 13.4 GB in warning, the battery at 7% and critical, with GPU, disk, network and thermals beside them

Down to the process

CPU, GPU, memory, disk, network and battery each list every process by what it’s using. Quit sits behind a confirm, and What’s This? looks up a name that means nothing.

The CPU page for an Apple M1 Pro: 92% busy, each core's load, and every process by its share of the CPU

Where the space went

A map of the whole disk that adds up to what’s used, including what macOS won’t let anyone read. Double-click to go in; reveal a folder, or move it to the Trash.

Storage: Macintosh HD as a map of tiles sized by what each folder holds, with 156.4 GB free and 29.5 GB that macOS keeps unreadable

Get it back, and know what comes back

Only what rebuilds itself starts ticked. Every row says how it goes and what comes back; anything in use is flagged with how to free it. Dry run is on until you turn it off, and the result is measured, before and after.

Optimize: 40.1 GB found, 18.1 GB ticked, with each item's size, how it's removed and what comes back; items in use are flagged

Why it’s warm

Every temperature sensor the chip has, the fans against their maximum, and which process is making the heat.

Thermals: nominal, the hottest CPU die at 80 °C, two fans, and every sensor with its peak and trend

What’s using the battery

Energy impact by process, what’s keeping the Mac awake, the last 24 hours of charge, and the battery’s health.

Battery: 7% with 14 minutes left, 30 W of power, the last 24 hours of charge, 84% health, and every process by energy impact

Who’s on the network

Download and upload by process, connections and round trips, and the link itself. The Wi-Fi name is never shown.

Network: 2.4 MB/s down over Wi-Fi 4, the link's signal, 50 connections, and every process by download

It stays on your Mac

Headroom reads this Mac and keeps what it reads here. It makes no network requests: no account, no analytics, nothing checked in the background.
